Research Interests

My research interest is in the area of learning and instructional technology. I am interested to advance medical education with innovative learning strategies. My research plan is to conduct applied research on technology integration in medical education with the intention of developing effective pedagogy that promotes student-centered learning and hence life-long learning.

  1. For more than 10 years, my research has been focused on educational technology and anatomy education. I conducted research on the application of educational technology to enhance the teaching and learning of anatomical sciences. The research provided guidance to the design of medical anatomy curricula and instructional strategies for presenting anatomical information

  2. As a founder of two medical schools, I have been involved on research activities that evaluated and improved the design and development of medical school curriculum. The research findings provided guidance for innovative ideas to actively involved students in the learning process

  3. To advance instructional design and information presentation of medical information, I collaborated to conduct research based on cognitive load theory. The research provided a framework for using learning theories to inform the design and development of instructional materials

  4. One of my research has been focused on the academic support for medical students. The research investigates the relationship between learning and study strategies as it relates to students’ performance on internal and external examinations. The research highlights important areas for consideration to improve students’ performance.

  5. Another research area of interest investigates team cognition. The research investigates the factors involved in the development of shared mental models and how these models inform faculty to design group and team learning activities
